February 7, 2023, Virtual Monthly Meeting

On Tuesday, February 7, at 7:00 p.m., we’ll be having our monthly meeting virtually, featuring…

Zeolites!
with Dana Krueger

The details…

This month, Dana Krueger will be presenting on zeolites, one of his collecting specialties. From the seemingly endless supply of Indian zeolites that we have all seen at mineral shows, to the material that can be found at popular northeastern field collecting localities, such as Nova Scotia or Connecticut, this is a large group of silicate minerals, many of which are popular with collectors.  Dana will present a brief background discussion about these minerals, including their chemistry, structure, and modes of formation, and then will follow with a photo show of specimens from his personal collection.

Dana is a lifelong mineral collector and longtime member of the Boston Mineral Club, having served as president of the club in 1987. He was introduced to the diverse zeolites of the Bay of Fundy, in Nova Scotia, during family collecting trips in the 1970s. He went on to a career as an analytical chemist and now runs a food analysis laboratory in Chelmsford. His collecting interests focus on silicate minerals, with a particular emphasis on the zeolite group.
