On Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at 7:00 p.m., we’ll be having our monthly meeting featuring…
Exploring Our Closest Neighbor: Lunar Science Brought Home
with Erik Hunter and Dr. Hairuo Fu
About the presenters…
Erik Hunter brings over 25 years of experience in uranium geology, mining, and radiochemistry, with a PhD from the Colorado School of Mines and extensive work across industry and research institutions.
Currently a LunaSCOPE Postdoctoral Fellow at Brown University, Dr. Hairuo Fu specializes in isotope geochemistry and planetary science, using high-precision methods to investigate planetary formation processes, including giant impacts and magma ocean dynamics.
The details…
The meeting will start with some time for socializing, then discussion of club business and welcoming of new members, followed by Erik and Hairuo’s talks.
Our two expert speakers will explore lunar science from both historical and analytical perspectives.
Erik will present “Ranger to Artemis: A History of Lunar Exploration Tools,” tracing the evolution of lunar exploration from early Soviet missions through the Apollo era, highlighting the development of scientific instruments and techniques used to study the Moon, along with a practical demonstration on building an inexpensive petrographic microscope.
Hairuo will present “Lunar Narrative Through Apollo Petrographic Thin Sections,” focusing on how advanced geochemical analysis and modeling of lunar samples reveal insights into the Moon’s origin and evolution.
After the talks, we’ll have the traditional BMC specimen raffle. Buy some tickets for a chance to win!
We hope to see you there!
